Creative Reflections: Therapeutic Art Invitations for Supporting Recovery & Sobriety

The book Creative Reflections: Therapeutic Art Invitations for Supporting

Recovery & Sobriety is a compilation of 64 therapeutic art invitations inspired by the

Daily Reflections book written by members of Alcoholics Anonymous. The book is

based on the author's experience in developing and implementing a weekly art

therapy group called "Creative Reflections” as a part of her intern placement. This

group was created for members of the Alano Club of Vancouver, a non-profit

organization that serves members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics

Anonymous (NA), and Al-Anon. The author implemented this group over the course of

a ten-month period and used her personal experience at this placement to inspire the

art invitations in this book. The book is designed to offer additional support for anyone

in recovery, whether from drugs or alcohol or both, to engage in creative reflection as

a means of exploring their recovery journey. Each art invitation comes with a

suggested material list, but readers are encouraged to adapt the invitations and use

what they have available. The book provides a space for readers to explore pieces of

themselves that they may not feel comfortable expressing verbally and to offer

themselves creative support through art making.
